JAN TAYLOR Member Aug. 2015

  1. Briefly, what have you done personally or professionally since high school?
  2. I graduated from Appalachian State with a major in Social Sciences and Sociology and a K-12 teaching certification. My first teaching job was in Hendersonville, NC, where I grew up. I taught 7th and 9th graders. After 2 years of teaching, I resigned my position to marry my husband, Todd, who was a helicopter pilot in the US Navy.

  3. How long have you lived in Raleigh/Cary/Durham?
  4. We have lived in Raleigh since 1992. I began volunteering at my son’s school when he was in third grade and eventually secured a position there as a teaching assistant. Opting not to reinstate my teaching certificate, I continued working as a teaching assistant until my retirement in 2015.

  5. What was your motivation for joining ALTA?
  6. I was introduced to ALTA through Operation School Bell. For several years, I was the school coordinator for OSB. After my retirement, I decided I wanted to be a part of this wonderful
Group of women and continue working with OSB.

  7. Please, tell us something about you we may not know or something about you that is unique or unexpected.
  8. One of our best Navy “adventures” was living in Australia for 2 years. Todd was chosen to participate in a Pilot Exchange Program with the Royal Navy. It was an adventure, for sure! Sometime ask me about the SPIDERS!! Even so, we hold many fond memories of our experiences and friends from “the land down under.”
