Jean Ehmke Member 2010

  1. Briefly, what have you done personally or professionally since high school?
  2. After graduating high school, I went to Oklahoma State University and got a degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology. My first job was designing fire suppression and detection systems for the mechanical spaces on ships and offshore platforms. Eventually, I worked up to the Director of Sales for that company. After that, we bought a small company that manufactured voice activated intercom systems and I ran that for a while until we moved to Raleigh. We sold that business and I went back to school at Meredith to get a degree in interior design. That evolved into specializing in kitchens and baths and, after working for a local company for about 6 years, I started my own business in 2010. On the personal side, we have four fabulous children who are all married and we have five beautiful granddaughters. We love to spend time with them, scuba dive, snow ski, and take adventurous trips.

  3. How long have you lived in Raleigh/Cary/Durham?
  4. We moved to Raleigh in 1999.

  5. What was your motivation for joining ALTA?
  6. My friend, Kimberly Mack, introduced me to ALTA. I was impressed with what a professionally run group it was and all of the good work accomplished. I had more time to be involved when my business was new but have had to cut back in recent years. But, I am happy that I can still contribute by managing the Target shopping nights for OSB.

  7. Please, tell us something about you we may not know or something about you that is unique or unexpected.
  8. When I attended Oklahoma State, I worked for a company called Fire Service Training. We trained firefighters across the state and I got to drive the fire truck for training sessions. That was fun!
